Background
Juchli Engineering was incorporated in March 2017 with the desire to provide high-quality engineering to clients across Alberta. Juchli Engineering’s original focus was electrical engineering services for building electrical systems, custom electronics, and the manufacture of custom circuitry. Juchli Engineering has more recently branched out into mechanical engineering to better serve its clients in the buildings industry.
We are licensed to do work throughout Canada and bring over 40 years of collective experience.

The Team
Mike Juchli, P.Eng.
Electrical Engineer
Mike, graduating from the University of Alberta in 2006 with his electrical engineering degree, brings experience in the building consulting world since 2009. He has worked on building projects ranging from small commercial renovations to large pharmaceutical labs.
In addition to building consulting, Mike has extensive experience with electronics design and programming, and his portfolio includes spaces with high-durability play installations for children and adults such as interpretive centers and escape rooms.
Lee Birkett, P.Eng.
Mechanical Engineer
Lee, graduating from the University of Alberta in 2009 with his mechanical engineering degree, brings experience in the building consulting world since 2011. He has worked with a wide range of private and public sector clients on a variety of commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities.
Lee’s experience includes many renovation and repair projects that require detailed analysis of existing building plumbing, HVAC, fire protection, and control systems and subsequent recommendations. Lee also has extensive experience in the design of mechanical systems for new buildings, including being lead mechanical engineer on an award-winning, net-zero-energy office building project in Edmonton, AB.
Julie Kraus, P.Tech.
Mechanical Technologist
Julie, graduating as a technologist from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in 2012, has worked in mechanical building engineering and design since 2014. She has extensive experience working on commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities for a variety of clients throughout Canada, both new build as well as retro-fit of existing facilities and systems. Her project experience is varied and includes healthcare facility upgrades, LEED/net-zero-energy builds, school modernizations, and building management system upgrades for institutions.
Recently, Julie obtained her limited scope P.Tech. stamp jointly through ASET and APEGA.
Sheldon Parr, E.I.T.
Electrical Engineer-in-training
Sheldon graduated from the University of Alberta in 2020 and is now a junior electrical engineer. Recently entering the field of building consulting, he is currently gaining experience in both the upgrade and new installation of electrical systems in many different types of buildings.
Prior to buildings, Sheldon did research and was an electrical team lead on a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle project design. He also did research, design, and fabrication on organic electrochemical transistor circuits.
Franz Almonia, T.T.
Technologist-in-Training
Franz is a recent addition to the mechanical team, bringing a mechanical engineering technology diploma from NAIT in 2024 as well as a mechanical engineering degree from the Philippines in 2017. Franz brings combined technical and professional experience in water resource operations management, manufacturing, and buildings consulting. Franz is quickly building his knowledge of mechanical buildings engineering, collaborating with both the mechanical and electrical team and liasing with clients to ensure smooth product delivery, and refining his skills in 2D and 3D modelling software.
Sean Thornton, C.E.T
Mechanical Project Manager
Sean graduated form the Air Conditioning Engineering program at NAIT in 1996 and has worked as a mechanical designer and project manager for 29 years. He has worked with a wide range of private and public sector clients on a variety of commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities. In his 29 years of experience, Sean has worked at various firms on a diverse selection of projects which has included learning centers (K-12 and post-secondary), office buildings, tenants, residential (including seniors’ residences), institutional and recreational.
Sean’s duties are varied and include design, contract administration, project management and design drafting. His experience designing projects gives him a natural talent for project management.
