Wildfire Temperature Logger

A custom electronic data logger built in conjunction with MYAC Engineering and the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Alberta. 100 units were produced on contract with Alberta Sustainable Resource Development.

Featuring:

-Adjustable temperature threshold and above/below threshold logging rates, to conserve memory and battery power until a fire is approaching and a higher data resolution is desirable

-Type K thermocouple for max temperature of 1024 °C

-PIC microcontroller based

-Custom insulated cases which allow the logger electronics to be buried in a shallow hole and survive a fire passing overhead

-Battery life to stay in field ~3.5 months before a fire triggers the higher resolution logging rate

-Battery test button, circuit and indicator

-USB interface for data transfer, calibration, and testing via a custom Windows interface written in C
